HASA is excited to announce a piano masterclass this spring with Dr. Christopher Madden, UMKC Assistant Professor of Piano Pedagogy and Director of Undergraduate Studies. The workshop will be on Saturday, May 4th from 10AM-12PM.


Schedule:

  • 10AM - Group 1
  • 11AM - Group 2

Students will be assigned to a group based on age and book number.

Registration Information:

HASA is offering two types of registrations - performer and observer. Student registration includes parent admission.

  • Performer registration $40 - Performer registration is open to the first 16 students who submit their registration form and pay the performer fee. 
  • Observer registration $15 - Observer registration is open to anyone who would like to participate by observation. Unlimited spots available.


Registration opens on April 1st and will close on Friday, April 26th at 11:59pm or when registration becomes full! Performers must submit book level and name of polished piece with registration.


Students whose teacher is a HASA member will receive a $10 off discount. Ask your teacher for the code!

Dr. Christopher Madden is Assistant Professor of Piano Pedagogy and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the UMKC Conservatory, where he teaches piano pedagogy, applied piano, and oversees the keyboard skills curriculum.  His playing has earned him numerous scholarships and grants, allowing him to perform throughout the United States, Canada, and Italy.

Active in both publishing and presenting, Christopher’s most recent work includes Technique through Repertoire, a two-volume series of excerpt books for intermediate pianists co-authored with Dr. Jani Parsons.  He is also serving as the editor for The Cambridge Companion to Piano Pedagogy, a forthcoming publication that seeks to provide pianists and teachers with a comprehensive overview of best practices in twenty-first-century piano teaching.

Christopher has published articles in American Music Teacher and The Piano Magazine, and in 2021, he received “Article of the Year” for a co-authored publication in the MTNA e-Journal.  He regularly presents workshops for the Music Teachers National Association, College Music Society, and National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy.
