"The path to diversifying your music studio and repertoire starts with the teacher. It is an inside job. Diversity From The Inside Out sheds light on beliefs, habits, and thinking patterns that could be preventing you as the music teacher from having a culturally eclectic studio. By the end of this workshop, you will have the awareness, language, and tools necessary to equip you to make real change." - Chenoa Alamu

Chenoa Alamu was born and raised in Memphis, TN. At the age of two, Chenoa attended her first classical music concert given by Japanese violin students of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. This sparked her interest in music and she was enrolled in the Suzuki Violin Program a year later.

Demonstrating her love and enthusiasm for music, Chenoa continued to develop her natural ability and trained gift in violin and vocal studies throughout her childhood and teenage years. She attended the Overton High School of Performing Arts, summer music camps such as Aspen Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Camp, Sewanee Music Center, and the Governor’s School of Performing Arts. She has achieved both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Violin Performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers during these earlier and formal years of study were Yuko Honda, Pak-Chung Cheng, Katherine Wolfe, Kurt Sassmannshaus, Dorothy Delay, and Dr. Won-Bin Yim.

She has also spread her wings in the Christian music industry and has shared the stage with the likes of Darwin Hobbs, Michael Card, Nicole C. Mullen, Kirk Whalum, Sara Groves, Phil Keaggy, just to name a few!

Currently, Chenoa Alamu resides in Springfield, IL and is the homeschooling mother of two beautiful children, Victoria and Jonathan. Her opinions on race can be found on CNN, NPR Illinois, and Huffington Post! She’s a podcast host of “Black, White & In Color which can be found where all podcasts can be heard!
