Hosted at:

UMKC Conservatory, Grant Hall

The University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory

5228 Charlotte St. Kansas City, MO 64110

What to Expect

Suzuki students of all levels will get to engage with nationally-renowned guest clinicians at the 2025 Annual HASA Suzuki Workshop, which will be hosted in Grant Hall at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. The day will begin at 8am, and all students will participate in a masterclass (a short lesson in small groups 2-4 students), a group or ensemble class, and an enrichment class. Young string students in the pre-twinkle program will be involved in a half-day of activities that end at 11:00am. Students in all other programs will be involved in activities that conclude with a final concert from 2:15-3:00pm. Read more about our programs for string students (violin, viola, cello), flute students, and piano students

Parent Attendance:

The Suzuki Method aims to set students up for success and involves parents as home practice partners. Parents are asked to attend workshop classes with their children and be active listeners. No student should be left for the day's activities without a responsible adult; a parent/guardian must be present at all times. There will be a passing period between classes to allow parents time to accompany all children as needed. No student may be in the hallway without a parent or guardian accompanying them.

Things to Bring:

Please remember your instrument, any necessary accessories (rosin, end-pin stops, cello chairs if using a special size, shoulder rests, etc). Students will also need a notebook, a pencil, and a water bottle. Students participating in the Intermediate and Chamber Music Programs will need their orchestra music. Parents of younger students may also consider bringing a quiet activity. Please read the section on snacks and lunch to decide how you will approach food for your family during the workshop.

Student Dress:

We recommend students come dressed in comfortable clothing for the workshop. Informal attire like jeans and tennis shoes work well for the workshop and the final concert. Students selected to perform in the Advanced Honors Masterclasses should see special information about performance attire.

Registration

Immediately after you have submitted your registration form, you will receive a confirmation email. Approximately one week before the workshop, you will receive an email with your child's schedule. Early Bird Registration will close on Friday, January 31st and Regular Registration will close on Sunday, March 9th. Students who want to be considered for the Advanced Honors String Masterclasses must apply by Friday, February 14th.
